Bucs general manager Jason Licht released an official statement on Friday saying that they are aware of the difficulty their undrafted cornerback was going through at the moment and that they respect his decision of staying away from the game for the meantime.

His agent, Joel Turner, also released a statement, which said that Wilson would like to give himself time to heal for his "long-term health." The proclamation also ensured his fans that once the 25-year-old North Carolina native feels that he is ready, strong, and fully healed, he will come back to the league and will most likely join the Bucs again.

"C.J. is in good spirits and is continuing to focus on his rehab and the healing of his hand," his agents said. "He is a very strong willed young man with great work ethic and character. We look forward to seeing him play again in the future."

The former NC state standout went through two operations this July, which were both administered at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The NFL's official website indicated that the Bucs have placed their injured player in the team's reserve/retired list hoping that he would be back at the soonest time possible. As soon as Wilson could pass a physical and medical test with the team, Tampa Bay is reportedly going to activate him at once.

The mishap took place in Wilson's home city of Lincolnton during the 4th of July weekend, according to ESPN. His father, Curtis Sr., claimed that his son's life was more important than his football career and so he was thankful that he came out of the accident still breathing.

"My son is alive, so God took care of him as far as that," the elder Wilson said.

Wilson is one of two NFL players who was involved in separate fireworks accidents on July 4 this year. The other one was New York Giants Jason Paul-Pierre, who is considered as one of the best defensive ends in the league right now. Paul-Pierre's right index finger was also amputated because of what happened.
