A big question on a lot of gamers' minds as Gamescom in Germany approaches is how much will Microsoft cut from the retail price of its Xbox One.

Xbox One costs $399 without the Kinect. Rumors of a price cut have grown louder after Microsoft's Spanish website's mobile version listed the console without the Kinect for €349.99 (US$369), a €50 slash.

The price is in euros but this didn't stop people from hoping a price cut is in the works for the U.S. and other locations.

A Microsoft spokesperson, however, said the Xbox One price of €349.99 was erroneous and that the company doesn't have any plans to cut its current price.

Customers are advised not to hold their breath but Microsoft can still pull-off a surprise on Aug. 12 at its Gamescom Xbox briefing.

The Xbox needs all the help it can get against Sony's PlayStation 4 and a price cut might not be a bad idea.

Some 540,000 PlayStation 4 consoles were sold in Germany since its launch nine months ago compared to 170,000 sold Xbox One units, said male lifestyle website CraveOnline.

Almost nine million PlayStation 4 units were sold around the world while Xbox One sold only five million units.

Elsewhere, news is that a white Xbox One will be retailed with Sunset Overdrive later this year. The game will be launched Oct. 20 and there is a possibility that gamers will see the white console available by then.

Sunset Overdrive is an upcoming open world action third-person shooter video game exclusively developed for the Xbox One by Insomniac Games and published by Microsoft Studios.

News about a white Xbox One and a Sunset Overdrive bundle priced at €399 was posted online and suddenly removed by French retailer Micromania. Release of the white Xbox One and Sunset Overdrive bundle is set for Oct. 28.

The white Xbox One was first exclusively available for Microsoft employees.
