Like any other partner in life, 36-year-old Chinese actor Li Chen has nothing but full support for his girlfriend Fan Bingbing, especially amid the controversy she is currently involved with. According to one report, Li shrugged off criticisms against Fan's "sex scene" in her latest movie "Lady of the Dynasty" and said that media simply "exaggerated" the intensity of the part.

"If it was [sic] me in her situation, she would be supportive of me too. I mean, that's showbiz," Toggle quoted Li on Wednesday.

On July 24 Friday, screencaps of the scene in question took Weibo by storm and caused netizens to air different concerns -- for Fan, for the horse, and for Li. In one photo, Fan was seen lying on the horse with her clothes torn off, leaving her skin-tone strapless bra exposed. In another, Fan appeared to be dripping in sweat while making love with Leon Lai's character. Feedback from social media users varied from whether the two actors' weight and intimacy affected the horse to asking Li directly on his Weibo account for reaction.

In an earlier interview, Fan firmly stated that she and Li "both have mutual respect and understanding" for what they do since they are both actors. She also blasted netizens whose comments bordered on attacking her choice of projects and consequently implied that such people are "perverts" during an interview, Yahoo! reported.

"If I have to shoot this type of scene again, I will definitely inform Li Chen in advance," the actress said on Friday.

Aside from stating his unwavering support for Fan, Li also expressed affection for his partner by posting a picture of her on Weibo. In the photo, Fan was hugging a life-size Baymax of "Big Hero 6." Li surrounded her with sticker photos of different cartoon characters, including Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, and Hello Kitty. Netizens found his gesture endearing and viewed this as his way of averting public attention from the controversy.

"Lady of the Dynasty" tells the epic tale of concubine Yang Guifei (Fan) and Tang emperor Xuanzong (Lai). Also starring Wu Chun and Joan Chen, the movie is set to hit Chinese cinemas on July 30.
