The first week of August is a definite downer for fans of forever as another high-profile relationship bit the dust. After almost 40 years of romance, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have decided to break up, following in the steps of Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani, and most recently, Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards to splitsville.

According to Kermit, it was Miss Piggy who initiated the separation and thought that it would be a "good publicity" for their upcoming mockumentary in September. In the new Muppet series, Kermit and the rest of the gang will be seen working behind the scenes of Miss Piggy's late-night talk show, US Magazine reported.

"I'm glad we're broken up. This is going to be great for moi's stardom. Now everybody's going to worry about oh, 'who's she dating? Who's she getting caught snogging with?'" the pompous Muppet diva announced.

As for the now-eligible bachelor frog, while the breakup was a "day-to-day process," it did not take long to mend his broken heart. Kermit readily admitted that he has moved on to dating another pig named Denise, who reportedly works at ABC marketing department. Despite his romantic split with Miss Piggy, Kermit is confident that it will not affect their work relationship.

"It can be tough to work with your ex, especially if your ex is a pig. . . [But] we're both professionals. I think we'll be fine," the talk show's executive producer stated.

Miss Piggy apparently showed no sign of regret over the fall-out. In a statement with media, she quite made it clear that the loss is not hers and that parting ways with Kermit was almost too imminent.

"I have no problem working with my ex, OK? Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens," Miss Piggy announced.

In the 1979 film "The Muppets Movie," Miss Piggy reportedly made the first move on Kermit. They sealed their first kiss in the 1981 movie "The Great Muppet Caper" and supposedly got married in "The Muppets Take Manhattan." The ex-couple separately tweeted the official announcement of their "un-coupling" on August 5.
