'Star Wars: Rogue One' Movie News: Cast and Crew Confirmed; First Leaked Photo Revealed

(Photo : Jesse Grant | Getty Images) The Star Wars: Rogue One new logo was unveiled behind Disney's Chairman Alan Horn During the D23 Expo in Anaheim.
Aside from Han Solo's upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the saga continues as "Star Wars: Rogue Nation" unleashed its very first photograph. The film's cast and crew was reportedly announced as well.
Lucasfilm confirmed yesterday that the standalone "Star Wars" movie had started its principal photography. The photo, showing the casts of "Rogue One" movie revealed the participation of Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, and Jiang Wen, according to StarWars.com. The photo was shot by Jonathan Olley and was posted on their website for reference.

Additionally, actors Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Ben Mendelsohn were reportedly joining the movie as well. However, their respective characters in the movie are still under the wraps.
The movie will be directed by "Godzilla" and "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards and will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy.
As for the movie plot, " 'Star Wars: Rogue One' tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star," as quoted from the site.
Kennedy also noted that the upcoming movie will be different from the previous saga films. However, it will have some "similar elements" to the Star Wars Universe. Its story will take place before "Star Wars: A New Hope" storyline.
"It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know," she explained.
Aside from the brilliant casting, the producer also credited the innovative style of the director and expressed her excitement working with him.
Edwards, on the other hand, sent his greetings to his fans thru a video message during the recently held D23 Expo in Anaheim, Wired reported. The director was reportedly filming the video from "Star Wars: Rogue One" set.
Aside from that, the film's new logo was unveiled, according to IGN. Notably, the site described that its new form suggest the film as a "Star Wars Story" than being referred to it as an "Anthology."
"Star Wars: Rogue One" will be released in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
