Dallas Cowboys superstar quarterback Tony Romo looked sharp and ready for the regular season after his strong showing during the team's 28-14 week 3 NFL Preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings at home on Saturday.

The 35-year-old four-time Pro Bowler went 5-for-8 on passes for 88 yards and had two touchdowns with no interceptions and sacks for a superb rating of 139.6 for the game.

But, of course, coaches fielded him in for limited minutes only to preserve him for the games that really matter. Actually, it was the most minutes he has played in this year's preseason and Cowboys coaches are well pleased by what they saw out there in the field.

Romo deservingly left the game with nine minutes remaining in the first half and Dallas up, 14-10, after his two-touchdown masterpiece, as per Tulsa World.

During the game, it was easy to forget that the former Eastern Illinois standout had already undergone two back operations since December of 2013.

Last season, Romo was shaky during the Cowboys' opening game against the San Francisco 49ers. He made just 62 percent of his passes, hurled three interceptions, and was sacked thrice in the 28-17 loss after returning from his first back surgery.

He and Cowboys fought back, winning the next six games before succumbing to a second back injury on week 8 versus the Washington Redskins.

Romo returned immediately on week 10 after a minor surgery and was able to help Dallas finish the season with a 12-4 slate, enough to get into the playoffs for the first time in five years.

This time, things look different according to his coaches as he was said to be "light years" better than last year, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

"I think he's ready," said Wade Wilson, the Cowboys quarterbacks coach. "I think he's light years ahead (compared to last year)."

They actually expected him to be better this year because he was able to fully participate in team practices and training since the OTAs, something that he has not done in the past two years.

ESPN indicated that this is it for Romo in terms of the preseason as the team's starters will not be utilized in week 4, which means the 13-year pro can now focus on the regular season, the only games that matter.
