The New York Giants and their superstar quarterback Eli Manning had agreed on a four-year, $84 million extension that reportedly included a guaranteed $65 million on Friday.

Fox Sports indicated that the two-time Super Bowl MVP became the fourth highest-paid player in the NFL with a $21-million average annual salary until the 2019 season.

The top three richest players in the league right now are all quarterbacks as well, namely Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers ($22 million), Seattle Seahawks' Russell Wilson ($21.9 million), and Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger ($21.85 million).

Manning is set to receive a total of $101.5 million over five seasons when the $17 million salary he will earn this year is included.

"I'm obviously excited knowing I'll be a Giant for a long time," said the 34-year-old former Mississippi standout. "This is where I got started and where I want to finish. I still have the same mentality. My goal is to earn this contract and do my best and keep trying to win championships for the Giants."

By the time the team enters the field for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Giants have already locked the three-time Pro Bowler for more or less the rest of his career.

NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk noted that Manning had recently told reporters that he did not want contract negotiations to happen "during the season," which was well-received by team officials as completed the deal before week 1 games.

The 11-year-pro had never been known to be outspoken especially with regards to money and contract matters, and so his recent comments were said to be taken meaningfully by the Giants.

NJ Advance Media said that a franchise quarterback is the hardest to find to build a winning team in the league. With Manning, the Giants are secured that they have that guy for the foreseeable future.

Head coach Tom Coughlin is equally thrilled as Manning, insisting that he is "our quarterback" and "leader" and that he was excited to have the deal "accomplished and looking forward to being on the field" with his guy.

The Giants are hoping to reset their offense with Manning still the focal point and 22-year-old sophomore wideout Odell Beckham Jr. as his primary target under offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo's new system.
