Rare Supermoon and Total Lunar Eclipse Show
A total lunar eclipse will share the show with a so-called supermoon on Sunday night or Monday morning, depending on your location. A supermoon is a rare phenomenon, it is when the full moon or new moon is at its closest distance to Earth. Although it is 220,000 miles away, this full moon will look completely different than usual, as this becomes brighter and bigger. In fact, this will be the closest full moon of this year, approximately 30,000 miles closer than the average distance.

The NASA planetary scientist Noah Petro said in New York Times that he is hoping that this celestial event will draw more interest in the moon. Noah Petro is the deputy project scientist for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission, currently orbiting the moon. He also encourages everyone to have interest on looking at it, as according to him "the moon's a dynamic place." "We're seeing changes on the surface of the moon from LRO. We're seeing that it's not a static body in the sky ... it's the greatest astronomical object we have seen in our backyard, essentially."
But some people, including stargazers, dislikes the term "supermoon", as according to them they do not spot remarkable difference between the moon and the supermoon, perhaps not unless you are viewing from the LRO or using high-end telescope.
The full eclipse of the moon will stay for more than an hour and will be visible from Europe, Africa, North and South America, and western Asia. The showtime in Europe will unfold before dawn on Monday. The action on the US East Coast is at 10:11PM EDT; that is when the moon, the sun, and the earth will lined up with the earth's shadow totally concealing the moon.
Magnifying devices are not necessary, the eclipse will be easily visible with the naked eye. Astronomers are urging stargazers to simply look to the east. In case you miss the opportunity to see this extraordinary celestial event or the clouds will obscure your on view, according to NASA a live video feed of the entire eclipse will be provided.
