The FAA recently granted the Icon A5 with a Light Sports Aircraft Certificate of Airworthiness. The aircraft is dubbed to be the safest personal plane in the market as of the present.
The design of the aircraft centers primarily on safety. This makes it suitable even to the least experienced pilot. Instead of relying heavily on pilot skills the plane was designed with a spin resistance system which allows it to recover fast during emergencies.
There were 1,500 pre-orders of the Icon A5 that awaits in its launching. This will bring the company a sum of $400 million. The company is still doubling its effort to produce more of this plane models in the next three years.
Earlier this week, the company conducted a demo flight at the Hudson River in New York City. Kirk Hawkins conducted the demo flight. He was a former F-16 pilot of the Air Force.
"At our core, we are an authentic aviation company. We are what aviation was meant to be--whether you are a fighter pilot or commercial pilot or a sport pilot, this kind of flying is what inspired every pilot as a kid," Hawkins told reporters after the demo flight.
Tech Times reported that 41 percent of all pilot-related aircraft accidents is caused by a spin. The Icon A5 sees to it that such spin won't occur by notifying the pilot before it happens. This early warning system allows the pilot to maneuver safely to correct the situation. Moreover, if the pilot does not initiate any corrective action, the plane will take over the control.
The plane is very much friendly even to the most amateur but still requires a license in order to fly the plane. But the good news is, Icon offers a flight course for $9, 500 which would two weeks of training.
Aside from the safety features, the plane was also noted to be adaptable in landing platforms. The plane could also land on water through its water platform.
The plane also features Angle of Attack system which helps the pilot avoid stalls. Furthermore, the plane features a cockpit with the clearest visibility.
