According to Reuters, Russia has referred to the U.S. support for Syria's rebel forces as illegal and ineffective particularly on driving a tide of refugees into neighboring states and even in Europe. Thus, he also added that Damascus should be included in such international efforts to fight Islamic State.
"We would welcome a common platform for collective action against the terrorists," Putin said in an interview on CBS's 60 Minutes, an American newsmagazine TV program that features prevalent global issues. He also added that Moscow, which sent tanks and warplanes to a Russian military base in Syria this month, was trying to put up a "coordinated framework" to address the issue and resolve the conflict.
Deriding U.S. plans in coaching up to 5,400 Syrian rebels, he stated that only 60 of these fighters have been properly trained, and as few as four or five people actually carried weapons. Likewise, some critics have also appealed to President Obama to be more decisive in the Middle East and Syria especially in his efforts and plans to give clear policies for the Islamic State opportunities to expand.
According to CBS Evening News, the White House said on Sept. 24, Thursday that President Obama will meet face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin in New York this week. The U.S. president has arrived in New York on Sept. 27 for the United Nations General Assembly and among the items on his agenda is a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
