The company Microsoft is taking a new level through augmented reality by HoloLens to compete its rival Virtual Reality technology. The company officially revealed the upcoming HoloLens developer edition which costs $3,000.

Virtual Reality (VR) companies such as Oculus and Sony's PlayStation VR focus on showcasing virtual reality which creates new experiences and opportunities to explore distant worlds in the game. Microsoft's VR demos have committed themselves to show gamers how augmented reality concepts can overlay and interact with real life.

According to Extremetech, the developer's kit received mixed reactions from the audience. There is no doubt that mixed reality of games can offer users some interesting experiences. There was a demo by Microsoft's in the show floor that presents a robot attacking into a mocked-up living room as well as the player. The spider bot is aware of the layout of the furniture and other room objects as well as other creatures generated by the AR title. Thus, the player can destroy and fire projectiles at the opponent.

Comparing VR kits, which require some additional device support, the HoloLens is a self-contained unit. According to Techgage, HoloLen's hardware component that is used in the system is unclear, but talks about its x86 processor, 60 Hz refresh rate and 2GB of RAM in total are also making their rounds over the web.

Earlier this year, there were reports that Microsoft HoloLens is using a custom Intel Cherry Trail processor. The company also claims that they are developing its own holographic processor unit based on a custom silicon design.

The HoloLens living room demo is impressive, but it is not actually the usual living room. And these sorts of demos appear to position HoloLens just like the same problems as Kinect had.

The expertise and conceptual ideas behind HoloLens is amazing, but the question remains: Is the Hololens sufficient enough to transform the product into something consumers really want to own.
