Yesterday, Oct. 6 Facebook's News Feed feature is upgraded in order to quickly load content on Android with slow or weak Internet connections.

Rapid News Network reported that Facebook users from India, Brazil, and Mexico are having difficulty loading pictures and videos that use more data because of weak 2G connections. Facebook decided to put an effort in updating to keep users engaged in these countries not just in the United States and western Europe where largely saturated in Facebook.

Selecting articles, pictures, and videos to load in the Facebook app is based on the strength of user's connections. Content that has easier and faster to load like text articles or posts is selected by the News Feed if having weak connectivity.

According to The Indian Express, Facebook Emerging Markets Product Manager Chris Marra and Emerging Markets Engineering Manager Alex Sourov wrote in a blog post that explains the changes. They stated there that an open-sourced Network Connection Class is developed so that they will be able to know how fast the users' connection is. They assured that retrieving more stories and photos while reading News Feed on slower connections is now starting with the recent update.

They will make sure that they will be ready loading more stories while the user is reading or done that post. Taking into account the speed of mobile or Wi-Fi connection, they also secured that users with a poor Internet connection will be prioritized in downloading of stories. For example, if a user is looking at a photo either from a friend or from a page that is not yet fully downloaded, Facebook will prioritize that photo than loading the story so that the users can see the most important photos as quickly as possible.

At least users will have something to look at until their slow connection is faster for more content to be pulled. Data-consuming content such as auto-playing videos, large photo albums, and art-heavy news stories is now seen in our current news feed.
