An R&B artist named Jesse Braham is suing Taylor Swift for allegedly plagiarizing a certain phrase from his 2013 song, "Haters Gonna Hate" and then incorporating it in her 2014 hit "Shake it Off". Aside from the $42 million dollars suit, Braham is also demanding that his name is included as one of the writers of the popular song.

The New York Daily News reported that aside from sharing the same phrase, "haters gonna hate, players gonna play", the two songs have nothing in common. Braham's song is traditional rhythm and blues while Swift's is a fast paced pop song that has garnered more than a billion YouTube views.
Braham insists that without his song, Swift would not have a hit song in "Shake it off". He released "Haters Gonna Hate" in 2013 using his stage name Jesse Graham, according to the BBC.
The R&B composer and singer said that he first saw and heard the song when Swift performed it on a television show. He claims to have unsuccessfully tried several times to arrange a meeting with Sony and Big Machine - Swift's record company.
Initially, Braham was only asking for the inclusion of his name as one of the writers of Swift's song and a picture taken of him with the pop diva. However, he was rebuffed a number times and denied that the phrase was lifted from his song.
So far, neither Swift nor anyone in her camp has issued an official statement regarding Graham's claim.
This is the second legal controversy that Swift is currently involved in. A week ago, Swift and her legal counsel filed a counter suit against a disc jockey who is also suing the pop star for accusing him of groping her at a concert two years ago.
David Mueller said that Swift's accusation caused his termination from the Denver KYGO radio station. He insist that he is innocent and points to one of his supervisors as the real perpetrator.
A spokesperson for Swift said that the KYGO owners were able to gather enough evidence to convince them of Mueller's guilt which was the reason he was fired.
Swift has noted that if she wins in the counter suit, any financial reward given to her will be donated to victims of sexual assault.
