UBTECH Robotics Launches Alpha 2 Humanoid Robot -- Available for Pre-Order

UBTECH Robotics is set to officially launch their new Alpha 2 humanoid robot on Thursday, Nov. 12. This is one of the first ever Humanoid Robot for the family designed for household service and companionship.
Alpha 2 has a similar design to many other class humanoids, but this robot stands out from the crowd due to its potential for social interaction and its extremely low cost.

According to IEEE Spectrum, the robot is capable of managing weekly calendars and provide verbal reminders for scheduled tasks. Users can have a conversation with the robot and it can follow verbal instructions. It can take high quality photographs and capable of posting it on different social medias. It also performs home security monitoring and alerts. The robot can entertain guests, children, and even pets. It is capable of reporting on the weather condition, it can also search the web, and download various types of applications.
Alpha 2 features acceleration sensor, sensor-based interaction, touch and pressure sensors, ultrasonic, and a built-in camera backed by robot visual computing systems. The robot can be operated using both Android and iOS systems that provide everyday remote control and communication.
The Alpha 2 battery life is expected to run for approximately one hour using standard usage before it needs to be charged via a wall plug for approximately two hours.
UBTECH Robotics designed the Alpha 2 with an open application platform and support for VAPP application development. Developers have been encouraged by the company to contribute to the on-going innovation. The nvolvement of programmers and enthusiasts is expected to help the Alpha 2 to reach its full potential and meet a growing array of needs.
Virtual Press Office reported that UBTECH unveiled the robot through the crowdsource platform Indiegogo at less than $500 for early birds, a fraction of its retail price point. This campaign will be officially launched on Nov. 11.
Customers, who purchase the Alpha 2 from the Indiegogo campaign, can have it for $500, which is $200 less than its expected retail price. The product is supposed to start shipping Feb. 16.
