Aside from allowing users to delete photos in bulk, the update will also allow users to downgrade the quality of their photos. This will be a big help for users who only have limited storage space or are approaching the storage limit of their device. Google said that this new option is also available for the web version of Google Photos.
The new feature is dubbed "Free up Space" and offers a seamless way to delete photos. The feature can be accessed on the Settings screen and after tapping the "Free up Space" option, Google Photos will automatically process the mass delete option of the user's photo. In order to avoid accidental taps, the new feature has a dual confirmation setup which asks user to confirm that they are really deleting their photos, according to Tech Crunch.
Google said that the "Free up Space" feature will only delete photos that have been backed up online. This will ensure that users will not accidentally lose their precious photographs.
The new Google Photos update will also introduce a new Assistant card. The new Assistant will notify users to delete photos when their storage space is approaching its limit.
Another major feature integrated into the new update will help users downgrade the quality of their pictures to manage their Google storage space. According to BGR, users who upload photos in "Original" quality will be able to downgrade it to "High" quality and save some storage space. Original quality photos usually eat up a lot of storage space. On the other hand, Google said that High-quality photos will not count in the user's storage quota.
