Google Can Now Stream Content From Android Apps in Search Results

Google recently unveiled a device prototype that works just like the Star Trek Communicator.

Tech giant Google announced on Wednesday that its search engine platform will now display contents from Android apps even if the apps are not installed on the device that did the search. This new feature is part of the company's drive to find the best way of indexing mobile applications.

Google principal engineer Rajan Patel told Tech Crunch that "The app loads in a virtual machine on Google's cloud platform, and the client - the Google app that runs on your phone - sends up the touch interactions to the cloud machine. And that cloud machine executes those touch interactions, renders the app and sends the pixels back down to the client."

Although the main focus of this strategy is on Google's search feature, it also supports the company's bid to gain dominance especially on the mobile platform. This could also set aside the law of diminishing return in terms of mobile device hardware especially when the processing is all done in the cloud.

According to Forbes, the ability to stream apps and even the whole mobile operating system might be the future of computing. Several tech giants have already started their own projects to provide users a way to access any kind of data anywhere over the Internet.

Microsoft was one of the first to enter this new foray with its Continuum project. On the other hand, what Google is doing is wrapping its own search engine in order for it to work on this new kind of platform.

The service is currently limited to a handful of apps. However, many tech analysts believe that this is the future that the company wants to pursue. By building this new platform, Google will be able to control not only search data but will also gain command of all data running on the Android platform.
