The annual Game Awards took place on Thursday, Dec. 3 and this year's ceremony was marred by shocking revelations and news. The biggest news that shocked the entire gaming community was that Konami banned "Metal Gear" creator Hideo Kojima from attending the awards night.

Kojima's "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" won the Best Score/Soundtrack and Best Action/Adventure awards of the night. Kojima, who is the director, designer, writer and producer of the game, was not present to accept the awards. Rumors indicate that Konami, publisher of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," banned Kojima from attending the ceremony, according to Forbes.

The news was not welcomed well by the gaming community and the night was filled with boos when Konami's name was mentioned. Instead of Kojima, the awards won by the "The Phantom Pain" was received by Kiefer Sutherland, who also worked on the game.

In a statement obtained by Fortune, host Geoff Keighley said, "As you noticed, Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight and I want to tell you a little about that. Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would be allowed to travel to tonight's awards ceremony to accept any awards. He's still under an employment contract. And it's disappointing. And it's inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates."

Upon hearing the unfortunate news, the crowd erupted into a loud boo. Twitch, which streamed the ceremony live, was bombarded with angry comments. Disappointed gamers also vented their frustration on social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook.

Following the event, neither Kojima nor Konami have released an official statement regarding the issue.
