Tech giant Apple released a new battery case for its flagship devices, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. The battery case was released without much media hype, a very uncommon trait for a company like Apple which is known for flamboyant marketing schemes in order to promote its products.

Aside from little attention given to its release, many analysts are bewildered why Apple would enter the highly competitive market of battery cases. Apple has a long track record of trying out new products. On top of that, experts believe that anything with an Apple logo embedded on its body will no doubt sell.
There are speculations claiming that the Apple Smart Battery Case will act as a backup supplement for the somewhat limited battery life of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Experts also speculate that this is Apple's way of branching out its marketing arm to other products and the Cupertino-based company perfectly timed it for the coming of the holiday season.
The battery case does not have indicator lights in order to show how much power is left. The case does not have an on/off switch either.
The Apple Smart Battery Case works as an extension of the built-in battery on the latest iPhones. By putting the iPhone into the battery case, its built-in battery will be charged. Once the battery case runs out of power, the iPhone will use its own battery.
Checking the power level of the battery case can be done by pulling down the Notification Center and an icon located near the top will tell users who much power the battery case has left.
Charging the battery case can be done through the case's Lightning port. When the case is attached to the iPhone while the latter is charging, both devices will be charged at the same time.
The Apple Smart Battery Case has 1,877mAh worth of power. According to Wired, the battery case costs $99.
According to The Verge, the iPhone 6S attached to the battery case should give users up to 25 hours of talk time, 20 hours of video playback and 18 hours of Internet browsing using LTE networks.
