Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese action-flick superstar Jackie Chan, was arrested for possession of marijuana in his home in Beijing.
Also detained by police was the younger Chan's Taiwanese movie star friend Kai Ko, after more than 3.5 ounces of marijuana were found at Jaycee's home.
The drug bust of Chan, 32, and Ko, 23, is part of an intensive sting to rid China's entertainment industry of illicit substances. Last week, on the heels of actor Gao Hu's arrest for marijuana and methamphetamine possession, 42 Chinese entertainment and performance agencies agreed to boycott celebrities convicted of taking drugs. Officials say that Chan and Ko both tested positive for cannabis.

This latest blow will undoubtedly aggravate what is already a contentious father-son relationship. Derided in the Chinese press as a playboy with a taste for luxury cars and parties, the younger Chan was born and raised in the United States. Dropping out of college to pursue an acting career in China, Chan found only limited success, prompting his father to urge Jaycee to go back to college. Jaycee did so, but was expelled for low grades.
In 2011, Jackie Chan sent a warning salvo at his son by announcing he would give away his entire million-dollar fortune upon his death, effectively cutting Jaycee off.
"If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money," said the elder Chan, as quoted in Channel NewsAsia.
The martial arts star, who has found success in both Eastern and Western cinema, was also quoted as lamenting the fact he did not sign his son up for the army in hopes to "temper his character."
As with much of Asia, China is noted for particularly draconian drug penalties. Offenders are mandated to go into rehab; some crimes carry the death penalty.
