Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo has announced that it will start making phones in India.
A leased space for the company in Greater Noida's Tech Zone will be used to assemble Vivo products that will be sold offline only. The company is planning to invest 125 crore in the Greater Noida facility with a total area of around 30,000 square meters and a capacity of over one million phones per month. The company will hire 2200 employees. The new plant is expected to be operational by the end of this month.

Lenovo and Xiaomi have announced similar initiatives. But Vivo is doing it all alone unlike Xiaomi which partnered with Foxconnset. Vivo entered India in 2014.
The Greater Noida plant will manufacture and assemble phone such as Y11, Y15S, and Y21, according to the company. Chief Executive Officer Alex Fang of Vivo India said it will be a significant moment when the company commences its first manufacturing unit in India because it reflects the company's ambitious business strategies for the country. He said the company will focus on dedicating the smartphone industry chain in the Indian market.
Some of Vivo's high-end smartphones have not done as well as what the company hoped, but consumers seems to like more mainstream Vivo phones according to the report by market research firm IDC. IDC noted that shipments of the top 3 Chinese vendors Xiaomi, Lenovo Group, and Vivo are growing at a healthy 18 percent month-over-month in October.
The market conditions in India in terms of volume and pricing conditions are similar to those in China, making India a lucrative phone market for Chinese companies. Not all Chinese companies that have entered or are planning to enter the Indian market have been successful.
