Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, famous for her role in the Oscar-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has announced that she has given birth to a baby girl.

The announcement, made on Chinese social media website Weibo, featured a picture of two adult human hands holding a little baby hand, with a caption saying "December 27th, 2015, you, me, her ... With the birth of this little life, we have our own family. Everything went safely and smoothly. Infinite gratitude!”

Following the online revealation, Ziyi's manager confirmed to the Associated Press that indeed the actress has given birth to a girl. She apparently gave birth in the United States.

The yet unnamed baby is 36-year-old Ziyi's first child with her husband, 44-year-old composer Wang Feng.

Feng responded to Ziyi's Weibo post with a post of his own, writing "The dust settles, spring begins and flowers bloom."

This baby is Ziyi's first-ever child, and Feng's third child following his daughters Apple and Jingyi, whom he had from earlier relationships.

Ziyi is one of China's most accomplished movie stars in the West.

Her road to fame began with her performance in the highly-acclaimed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, alongside fellow Chinese actors Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat. The movie will be having a sequel next year, but she is not included in the cast.

Her other English titles include Rush Hour 2, Horsemen, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

A highly-acclaimed Chinese epic titled The Grandmaster also gave Ziyi several awards across Asia.

Ziyi's Chinese rockstar and composer husband Feng, on the other hand, became famous in China after becoming a judge on the Chinese singing show Voice of China back in 2013.

Feng reportedly proposed to Ziyi in February this year and gave her a diamond engagement ring on her birthday via a drone.
