On Dec. 31, Huawei Watch users running a beta tester program received a test build of Wear 1.4 running Android 6.0.1 that will be announced at CES 2016.

Huawei Watch was designed to look like a classic timepiece and is built with premium materials like stainless steel and sapphire glass, which protects its screen. The newest API for Android Wear is based on Android Marshmallow.

Users are given a quick test to make phone calls from the watch and to set a ringtone for incoming calls. Users can also make references to a feature called Audio Feedback that reads out incoming notifications as well as the time.

Other features reported include new wrist gestures that allow users to take action on a card, pull down the setting shade, open the apps menu, return to the watch face when the users are in an app, and cancel actions.

The changelog also mentions battery life improvements and support for sending messages through third-party chat apps using voice commands. Android Wear does not currently support external audio. It is expected to be added in a future software update. The Android Wear version number is 1.4.0.2496323 based on Android 6.0.1.

More functionality is expected in a future stable release given that things are still fairly early and given that this is only a test build. Huawei Watch owners who have gotten a taste of things cannot wait to see these features officially rolled out on their devices.

Meanwhile, the company has announced its new Smartwatch model at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
