With the victory, Hingis and Mirza equaled the longest women's doubles winning streak record, which was held by the duo of Puerto Rican Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva of Belarus, who won 28 straight matches in a row in 1994.
Mirza and Hingis will next go up against the winners of the match between the duo of Timea Babos and Katarina Srebotnik and the Raluca Olaru and Yaroslava Shvedova team. Mirza and Hingis have the chance to improve their record with another victory.
Hingis has won five Grand Slam singles titles, three at the Australian Open, one at Wimbledon and one at the US Open. She has also won 11 Grand Slam women's doubles titles, a calendar-year doubles Grand Slam and four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. She temporarily became the world's top tennis player on March 31, 1997.
Hingis started tennis at the very young age of two. She turned pro at the age of 14 with her mother Melanie Molitor as her coach.
Hingis became the youngest Grand slam singles winner in the 20th century by winning in the Australian Open at the age of 16 years and 3 months. She was the youngest top ranked player in history.
Mirza is the highest-ranked female player ever from India, reaching her career high singles ranking of world No. 27 on August 28, 2007. She started tennis at the age of six and throughout her career has established herself as the most successful female Indian tennis player ever and one of the high profile and highest paid athletes in the country.
