Dias Kadyrbayev, a Kazakh national, has pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice concerning the investigation of the 2013 Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Along with other friends and roommates of Tsarnaev, Kadyrbayev is said to have lied to investigators, destroyed a laptop containing evidence, and removed a backpack containing explosives and other items linked to the case.

Kadyrbayev is expected to enter his guilty plea on Thursday at a previously scheduled trial in Boston, said his lawyer, Robert Stahl.  After the plea is entered, sentencing will be scheduled.

Early in the investigation, Kadyrbayev denied any involvement with the bombing near the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon which injured more than 260 people and killed three.

He was taken into custody in May 2013 along with his roommate, Azamat Tazhayakov, whom a jury found guilty of conspiracy in July and is awaiting sentencing on October 16.

Both 19-year-old men were friends of Tsarnaev, and his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who were the main suspects in the Boston Bombing.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a police shootout in April 2013.

A third friend, Robel Phillipos, is charged with lying to investigators and may face 16 years in prison for the lesser crime.

For his role, Kadyrbayev faces four counts of obstruction and conspiracy.  He is said to have brought Tsarnaev's laptop to his apartment off-campus from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, where most of the suspects were enrolled at one point.

He also was found to have attempted to dispose of a backpack belonging to Tsarnaev in a dumpster after he discovered fireworks and gunpoweder inside.

Investigators say he removed a jar of Vaseline which he told friends he thought may have been used by Tsarnaev to make bombs, as well as a thumb drive which was later recovered at a landfill.

At sentencing, Kadyrbayev, along with Tshayakov, could face a maximum of 25 years in prison.
