xXx3: The Return of Xander Cage is said to follow the story of the previous XXX film. The sequel starts with Cage being left for dead after an accident, but then later secretly returns to action to fight off a group of criminals.
The new film in the XXX franchise will be directed by D.J. Caruso with its screenplay written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris.
Not much has been said about Li's character. In the 2002 XXX film, the lead character Xander Cage, played by Vin Diesel, was a former sports enthusiast who was tricked into working for the National Security Agency as one of their spies. He is then tasked to fight a group of terrorists located in Central Europe.
Also starring in the xXx3: The Return of Xander Cage is Diesel's Fast and The Furious co-star Tony Jaa as well as Avengers: Age of Ultron star, Samuel L. Jackson, Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and model-recording artist Ruby Rose.
No shooting date has been announced, but rumored filming locations include a number of sites across The United States, Europe and The United Kingdom.
