Chinese smartphone maker and communications giant Huawei is collaborating with Denmark's TDC Group company to upgrade TDC's coaxial network so that it can deliver broadband speeds of up to 1GBPS.
This upgrade is set to be launched summer this year and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017. Huawei and TDC's partnership will set a record, making Denmark the first country to upgrade an entire cable network to "Giga COAX" offering super-speed connectivity over cable networks.

According to Pernille Erenbjerg, CEO of TDC Group, this project is the most comprehensive and ambitious upgrade on its cable networks. In addition, Erenbjerg said that this is one of the largest investments in digital infrastructure in Denmark. He promised that before the end of 2017, almost half of all Danish users will have the access to 1 Gbps speeds.
"We are opening a high-way for digital entertainment media where only the imagination sets the limits and not the speed," he explained.
Huawei has revealed that the D3.1-compliant architecture involves network-wide end points, amplifiers, optical nodes, passive splitters, and corresponding engineering services, which will provide a ground-breaking speeds and connectivity. The company added that through this technology, users can experience a 1GBPS speed that can download an entire HD movie (approximately 14 GB) in less than 2 minutes.
Zha Jun, President of Huawei's Fixed Network Product Line, revealed that the D3.1 industry chain is in its infancy at present. He explained that the company has been strategically investing its resources in this field since 2012.
"The partnership with TDC demonstrates the innovation capability and achievements of Huawei in the cable and wired broadband domain. It is also a key step of Huawei and TDC in promoting fixed network modernisation. Huawei's cooperation with TDC and other industry players to build industry-leading Giga coax networks will greatly promote DOCSIS 3.1 commercialisation worldwide and help establish a mature industry ecosystem," Jun explained.
