The 28-year-old Turkish international's switch to the Asian giant China was made known last week.

Early in his career, Gulum played for Australia's Hume City. He transferred to professional Turkish club Manisaspor in 2005.

In February 2008, the Turkish professional football player moved to Elazigspor. During Gulum's spell with the Gakgoslar, the center back gained reputation as a strong left footed defender.

He joined Adanaspor in 2008-09 season and played 30 League matches.  The Toros Kaplanlari loaned Gulum to their rival club Besiktas in July 2010.

Following a productive season with Beşiktaş, the Turkish outfit acquired Gulum full time for a reported fee of €4 million (US$ 4.4 million).

Chinese clubs have been very keen to lure high profile football players from different leagues to augment and bolster their own squad.

In recent developments, record-breaking transfer deals have been sealed by the wealthy Chinese outfits.

Big-time spending Jiangsu Suning has closed a number of enormous transfer deals that made headlines in the world of football.

They acquired the services of the Brazilian star Alex Teixeira from the Ukranian Premier League side Shakhtar Donetsk in a US$55 million deal and fellow Brazilian national Ramires from the Premier League club Chelsea for a US$35 million contract.

Colombian Jackson Martinez joined the reigning AFC Champions League and Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande from the La Liga side Atletico Madrid for US$46 million.

Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi of the Paris Saint-Germain is also set to join the Shanghai Shenhua for a reported US$11-to-15-million deal.
