The words "Google Fiber" might incite technological excitement for most people, but the same can not be said for some residents of Southeastern Austin, Texas where the company is planning an expansion program. For several months, several residents have complained about construction eyesores as well as flooding aggravated by material left behind by contractors working for Google Fiber.

The blame is being directed towards Google's contractors. Some Austin residents have complained about damages and congestion caused by the ongoing construction of Google Fiber's Internet infrastructure.

One of the most affected areas is Lambs Lane in Southeast Austin. Residents claim that Google's contractors left construction eyesores in the area. They say construction materials that were left behind have blocked a number of storm drains, causing excessive flooding in the area.

As much as 363 complaints are reported to have been filed in Austin regarding Google Fiber's construction activities. Some of the complaints include lawn and landscape damages, trespassing, home damages, and several issues of disruptions including trucks that block private drive ways.

In a statement, Google Fiber community impact manager Parisa Fatehi-Weeks said, "We're committed to ensuring that our contractors perform within industry standards and resolving the complaints we receive in an appropriate manner."

Google first announced its plans to bring Google Fiber to Austin in April 2013. Google Fiber is an ultrafast Internet connection that promises download speeds of up to one gigabit per second. With that download speed, a normal TV show can be downloaded in about three seconds and a high definition movie can be downloaded in less than 36 seconds.

At the time the plan was announced, Austin city officials along with several community groups agreed that the project will be helpful in the boosting the community's economy and make it a technological hub in the region.
