Tech company Sony unveiled a very interesting concept device called the Xperia Projector at the 2016 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The device is a working interactive projector system which turns any surface into a touchpad.

According to Digital Trends, the Xperia Project is fully autonomous. This means that a separate computer or smartphone is not necessarily needed in order to power the projector. The projector runs on Wi-Fi since it only has a single cable which is used to power it.

Although the Xperia Projector needs a wall outlet to power it, its design is aimed at promoting mobility. Based on how it looks, users can potentially set it up virtually on any surface.

Since the Xperia Projector is still in its early conceptual stage, some experts who were able to test the device pointed that it has some slight lag. Although this might be a major flaw, experts believe that Sony would be able to address this in the future.

The possibility that the Xperia Projector runs on the Android ecosystem means that it will be a new field for content developers to tackle. Not much can be said about this until the device's SDK is released to developers. However, based on initial tests, experts agree that the Xperia Projector will open up a new platform of applications.

Sony did not provide any information regarding the current development stage of the Xperia Projector or its release date. The device's price tag is also a big mystery.

Along with the Xperia Projector, Sony also unveiled a handful of concept devices at the Mobile World Congress. One of it is the Xperia Eye, which is a wearable wide-angle lens camera.
