Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has tweeted to confirm that the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first of three movies.

"You heard wrong, I'm afraid. #CursedChild is a play. #FantasticBeast will be 3 movies, though!" Rowling wrote on Twitter.

Rowling's made the revelation on Twitter to correct a fan's statement about the Harry Porter and the Cursed Child play.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play written in collaboration with Rowling, This is England '86 playwright and screen writer Jack Thorne, and Tony award winning theater director John Tiffany.

It is a two-part series that revolves around the story of Harry Potter and his son Albus Severus (named after Harry Potter's mentors Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape) - 19 years after the dramatic conclusion of Rowling's seventh Potter installment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The play, according to The Telegraph, is set to take the stage this July 2016. More than 175,000 tickets for the play have already been sold - in just eight hours.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a film written by Rowling. It will be directed by David Yates, who has directed many Harry Porter movies.

It follows the story of Newt Scamander (to be played by Les Miserables star Eddie Redmayne) in his quest for magical creatures. Redmayne will be joined by Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, John Voight, and Ezra Miller among others.

Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them is set to hit the cinemas in November this year.
