English Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool FC are reportedly set to battle it out for the services of World Cup-winning midfielder Mario Götze in the summer.

Caught Offside indicated that the two English clubs are ready to "fight it out over the transfer of Bayern Munich ace" Götze at the end of the season even as the 23-year-old Germany international had been limited to just 11 games in the current season because of recurring injuries.

It was also said that these injuries were the reason why Bayern is beginning to "raise doubts about his future in Bavaria".

The report further mentioned Götze's recent rift with current head coach Pep Guardiola, who is also set to exit the Bundesliga this summer in favor of a coaching stint in England with Manchester City.

Guardiola's departure is speculated to be what the 5-foot-9 Memmingen, Germany native is waiting for to "re-establish himself" in Munich, but still the option to move to England will be open with the interest of two of the richest clubs in the Premier League.

Reports are out that Die Bayern is already preparing contract extensions for some of their top stars such as winger Thomas Müller and striker Robert Lewandowski, but no renewals for Götze has been mentioned, which said to have put "his future at the club into further doubt".

Meanwhile, ESPN's Philip Costa noted that even with Götze's "famous goal" that gave the 2014 World Cup to Germany, "his club career since has failed to live up to expectation". Costa then said that "the German giants are said to be fed up with Götze and are ready to sell him to the highest bidder".

Götze was acquired by Bayern in April of 2013 from fellow German squad Borussia Dortmund for a fee of €37 million, the Germany transfer record at that time. He is in his third season with the Bundesliga champions right now, appearing in a total of 104 games and scoring 34 times during the said time period.
