A local game developer is attempting to penetrate China's game console industry, now that the country has lifted its ban. Oasis Games has introduced China's first PlayStation 4 game entitled Koi. This is the first PS4 game made in China.

Koi is a game about a fish and a pond. Instead of the usual gameplay, where players mavouver the fish, the developers stressed that their creation is "rather a philosophical slant." On Koi, players can "find happiness and peace of mind by bringing purity to a lotus pond," the game developers said.
In the game, the lone Koi fish sets on an introspective journey, swimming through a minimalist environment while solving puzzles, ducking foes, and unlocking lotus flowers. The game also comes with a hypnotic piano score that calms the senses. Furthermore, players will have the choice to take side trips including finding out the hidden melodies that can be placed elsewhere. The aim of the game is to restore the ecosystem, with each achievement turning murky waters into a beauty.
Since creating video games is not an everyday thing in China, Koi will be the pioneering title to be published under Sony Computer Entertainment Shanghai and will be debuted at the Game Developers Conference later this month.
Koi's release is expected to open a door of opportunities for other Chinese console game makers. Although console studios are not new in China, they tend to be mostly satellite branches of big companies such as Ubisoft Shanghai. Moreover, a number of Chinese console studios also develop for platforms that have already been deemed legal like PCs and mobile devices.
