With the win, the Mavericks moved back above .500 with 34 victories and 33 defeats. Meanwhile, Dallas has strengthened its hold for a playoff spot in the Western Conference as they are currently tied with the seventh-place Houston Rockets and just a victory behind with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Mavericks are two wins ahead of the ninth-place Utah Jazz, who won against the East top team Cleveland Cavaliers 94-85 to improve to a 32-35 record.

"The defense was great," coach Rick Carlisle, who adjusted the team's game plan by putting the smaller, but faster 6-foot-1 Raymond Felton over the taller 6-foot-11 Zaza Pachulia, said. "We just had really good energy, focus, togetherness. We were playing relatively small, so we needed everybody to be very vigilant about being on the boards. That's our best chance to win and we did that tonight."

Dallas capped the second quarter with a huge 19-point lead as they ended the first half with 52-33 on the score board. The Hornets rallied and made a 32-19 run in the third period to narrow the gap to just six 71-65 going in to the final quarter.

Walker scored eight straight points to give Charlotte a 73-71 lead in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. However, the Mavericks were able to bounce back quickly and build a 10-point lead 91-81 with six minutes remaining.

Dallas dominated the fourth period and stretched their lead to 13 points 103-90 with just 2:13 minutes to go.

Kemba walker led Charlotte with 25 points and Nicolas Batum added 20 points.
