Sinatra Jr.'s complete name was Francis Wayne Sinatra, a slight difference from his father's full name, which is Francis Albert Sinatra. He opted to use Frank Sinatra Jr. as his own professional name.
The singer was born in Jersey City in 1943. This was also the period when Frank Sinatra's career was still not fully established. Sinatra Jr. claimed to watch his father perform and be one of the famous singers of all time.
In 1963, when Sinatra Jr. was only 19 years old, three men kidnapped him from a hotel in Lake Tahoe. He was released unharmed after two days when a ransom of $240,000 was paid.
The main suspect, Barry Keenan, was a high school friend of his mother, Nancy Sinatra. Keenan was arrested along with two other suspects and was charged with conspiracy and kidnapping.
Sinatra Jr. started to venture into a music career and became a musical director and conductor for his father. The elder Sinatra passed away on May 14, 1998 due to a heart attack. He was 82 years old.
Sinatra Jr. continued his father's legacy and started to perform his songs and arrangements on tours. He once said in a 2002 interview that he got to perform along with huge orchestrations, which are considered timeless.
Sinatra Jr. is survived by his only son, Michael, from his previous marriage in 1998.
