In case that the Kindle device does not automatically download the update, Amazon said to contact its customer support or check its website for the instructions.

According to The Verge, the following list of Kindle devices are required to update their software to prevent disconnection from the Internet: Kindle First Generation, Kindle Second Generation, Kindle DX Second Generation, Kindle Keyboard Third Generation, Kindle Fourth Generation, Kindle Fifth Generation, Kindle Touch Fourth Generation, and Kindle Paperwhite Fifth Generation.
