Recent rumors are out that English Premier League giant Manchester United is set to unload two of its newly-acquired stars, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin, in the summer as the team plans a major roster overhaul.

The Sun reported that the 22-year-old Depay, who was signed by the Red Devils last summer for a fee of £25 million from PSV Eindhoven, "faces the axe in a Manchester United summer clear-out" as he had failed to meet expectations from team officials during his short stint.

Depay had scored only twice in 23 appearances in the English top flight this season and had a total of seven goals in 39 games in all competitions for the Old Trafford residents.

The Dutch winger is not the only one whose head is reportedly on the axe right now as United is said to be also set to let go of the 26-year-old Schneiderlin, who was bought from Southampton also last summer for a fee of £24 million.

Schneiderlin scored only once in 19 Premier League appearances and 27 games in all competitions, a far cry from what the club was looking for when they signed him last year.

Caught Offside noted that the possible departure of the 6-foot-1 defensive midfielder "is more of a surprise, with the French international demonstrating that he could be an ideal long-term successor for (vice-captain) Michael Carrick, even if he hasn't always looked comfortable this season".

Aside from the two stars, goalkeeper Sergio Romero and defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo also reportedly "face uncertain futures as United look to rebuild after a poor campaign".

The players' futures are not the only one under threat at the moment as current head coach Louis van Gaal is also rumored to be on the way out of the Old Trafford's door in the summer. Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is speculated as his replacement.

The 64-year-old Dutch manager was acquired by the Red Devils in the summer of 2014 to replace Scottish David Moyes, signing a three-year deal that will expire next year.

He was a disappointment for United fans all season, producing only 14 wins in 30 games, as the club settles for the sixth spot in the current Premier League table and in danger of not qualifying for next season's Champions League tournament.
