While Microsoft continues to market its latest Windows 10 operating system as the most advanced and secure platform today, some people are not joining the bandwagon. For users who do not want to upgrade to Windows 10, a new app called Never10 is offering a free alternative.

Never10 is the brainchild of Steve Gibson, the same person behind Shields UP! Which is an anonymity app. Never10 is compatible with computer systems running on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

The idea behind the Never10 app is relatively simple: the software will run as a background app and will block all attempts by Microsoft to push the Windows 10 upgrade on the system.

Gibson said that Never10 does not install any software of its own on the user's computer system. Instead, upon downloading the app, it quickly performs all the required system file alteration in order to stop the Windows 10 update from being pushed.

In a statement acquired by ZDNet, Gibson said, "Using this utility, inexperienced users will be able to easily use Never10 themselves, while advanced users will likely appreaciate that fact that no additional software is installed and will be able to refer friends and family, whom they support, to this easy-to-use utility."

Although Never10 completely disables the Windows 10 automatic update, the app still allow users to enable it if they want to.

Never10 is not the first utility tool that blocks Windows 10 updates. Softwares like GWX Control Panel have been in the circulation for quite some time now and performs almost the same task as Never10.

Microsoft is still offering the Windows 10 upgrade completely for free, at least until July. Despite this marketing strategy to boost its user base, some users are still wary whether the new operating system is secure.
