(Photo : Facebook) The earlier Mi Note was a clear challenge to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus, and while aesthetically the Pro looks exactly the same, it packs current-generation hardware including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and a sharp 2K display.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. is preparing to replace its one-year-old Xiaomi Mi Note device with a new successor sometime by these coming months. Rumors suggested earlier this month that the new successor, called the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, could feature a dual-edge display screen like that of Samsung's Galaxy Note Edge or the latest Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the latest rumors, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 could also feature a 5.7-inch phablet size display screen like its predecessor, but with an upgraded Quad HD pixel resolution (2,560 x 1,440). Additionally, the device is rumored to have either Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset or the Snapdragon 823, and either 4GB of RAM or a whopping 6GB of RAM.

Other specifications include a 3D touch pressure sensitive capability, 32GB/64GB/128GB of built-in memory storage options, a 16 megapixel Sony IMX298 camera with OIS, and a large 3,600 mAh battery. Since Xiaomi hasn't confirmed these specs yet, they should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.

In the meantime, Xiaomi's latest high-end smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 5, is expected to go on sale in the Indian market on Apr. 6 via the Mi.com website. On the same day, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro variant will go on sale in the Chinese market.

In addition to smartphones, the Chinese company also unveiled a new smart rice cooker this week, called the Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker, which is the first product to be launched under the new "Mi Ecosystem" sub-brand. Xiaomi's latest smart rice cooker will go on sale in China on Apr. 6 via Mi.com.
