New York Times Writer To Pen Robin Williams Biography

Robin Williams was larger than life, but much of his life offstage was kept private, with the public not knowing of the many good and charitable things he has done in his life and, with even some of his closest friends unaware of difficulties he was going through.

A biography on Robin Williams' life is currently in the works. Publisher Henry Holt has tasked noted New York Times writer, Dave Itskoff with writing the book.

Itzkoff also penned the Oscar-winning comedian's obituary and extensive profile which ran on the front page of the New York Times.

Th publisher of the book announced on August 27 that the book will be a "definitive, comprehensive account of Williams' life."

According to Itzkoff, the actor was his cultural hero and, he has been lucky to have had met him. "In the encounters and interactions I was able to share with him, he was always gentle and generous, humane and thoughtful and hilarious," he shared.

The biography's title and release date have not yet been announced.

Robin Williams passed away on August 11 from an apparent suicide. He was 63. 

A special tribute was given to Williams during the recent Primetime Emmy Awards. After the annual "In Memoriam" segment of the awards ceremony, Billy Crystal, Williams' close friend of more than three decades, took to the stage to remember the comedian.

Crystal and Williams were co-stars in the 1997 comedy movie, "Father's Day".

In his speech, Crystal recalled what a performer Williams was, but even more than a brilliant performer, Crystal shared that he was one of the greatest friends he's ever had in his life.

"It's very hard to talk about him in the past. because he was so present in all of our lives. For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy," Crystal said.
