Amazon is making a big shift in marketing its products as it announced that users can now subscribe to Amazon Prime Video separately from the rest of other Amazon Prime products. With this change, Amazon is turning its business into a subscription-based one, allowing users to subscribe to one product at a time if they wanted to.

Many tech analysts still consider Amazon to be the leader of e-commerce in the United States. However, due to dwindling revenue, the company has been in constant struggle to diversify its core business and add more and products and services into it.

According to Tech Crunch, as part of its business diversification, Amazon launched services like the Amazon Web Services which earned $10 billion in annual sales. However, market analysts see Amazon Web Services as just one piece of a bigger subscription puzzle that Amazon is trying to implement.

When Amazon Prime started, it was just a simple shipping option for Amazon customers. Instead of paying regular shipping fees, Amazon customers can subscribe to the service and pay an annual fee which in return will hasten their shipping process.

Amazon Prime quickly turned into a sort of digital library where customers can get all sorts of content ranging from e-books, photo storage options, TV shows as well as movies. The service only costs $99 per years and once subscribed, users can access all the services it offers.

Through the years, Amazon created several smaller subscription packages which in turn caused Amazon Prime subscription to decrease since users are starting to subscribe only to services that they wanted to have.

According to BBC, with the new subscription scheme, users can simply pay $8.99 per month if they only want to get Amazon Prime Video. On the other hand, the $99 annual subscription package is still available and it retains all the features from unlimited movies and TV shows to unlimited streaming and same-day delivery options.
