Porritt is expected to replace Steve Zadesky, the former head of Project Titan. Prior to working with Tesla, Porritt has an extensive background in auto engineering. Most notable of this is his work as the chief engineer for prominent car brand Aston Martin.

While working with Aston Martin, Porritt is credit for his work on the now iconic Aston Martin DB9 and the Aston Martin One-77. During his tenure with Tesla, Porritt said that he had worked with the Tesla Model X, Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3, according to Inverse.

With Zadesky leaving Apple, Porritt will be among the top level executives and senior car expert at the company. Apple and Tesla have been at each other's throat for quite some time, poaching employees whenever possible. However, in the past, Apple was only able to recruit engineers and this is the first time the company was able to score a top executive hire from Tesla.

Apple has been very secretive about Project Titan. Although the company did not officially confirm what the project is working on, rumors claim that it is the company car project. Several tech analysts claim that Apple still has a long way to go before an Apple Car hits the road. Reports claim that the tech company should be able to roll out its own car in 2019 or by 2020.
