Napoli legend Diego Maradona recently said that the club should let go of resident striker Gonzalo Higuaín and replace him with Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane this summer, according to reports.

ESPN reported that the 55-year-old former Partenopei superstar, widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time with Brazilian Pelé, has said that Napoli "should sell striker Gonzalo Higuaín and buy Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane as his replacement" instead.

Higuaín is the top goalscorer of the current Italian Serie A season with 30 goals in 31 appearances. Juventus striker Paulo Dybala is a far second with 16 goals while Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi and AC Milan's Carlos Bacca are tied at third with 15.

"I think 'Pipita' (Higuaín) has already done the best he can for Napoli and he's not going to have another season like this one," Maradona said in an interview with a local Naples media outlet.

"We saw it also with (Ezequiel) Lavezzi. They need new faces and they need to sell Higuaín for as much money as possible. Instead of Higuaín, I would go for (Harry) Kane of Tottenham," he added.

Gli Azzurri surrendered this season's Scudetto to now five straight Serie A champions Juventus on Monday after their 1-0 loss to Roma. The absence of Higuaín is seen as a huge factor to it as he was banned for four games following a fuming response to being sent off during the team's 1-3 loss to Udinese earlier this month.

On the other hand, Kane is the Premier League's top scorer this season with 24 goals in 34 contests. His fate is somewhat similar to Higuaín this season as his Tottenham squad is also set to endure a runner-up finish to Leicester City in the English top flight competitions, as per Caught Offside.

There are no clear indications if the Spurs would be willing to sell their top striker to the Italian club this summer, but a huge endorsement from a football legend will surely be welcomed by Kane himself.
