Game company Nintendo has announced that it is releasing the much-awaited and much-needed NX console in March next year, and promises that it’s going to be all-new.
With the Wii U and 3DS handheld both needing a successor, Nintendo’s announcement comes very timely, reports Tech Crunch. The tech company has foreseen relatively disappointing sales profits by next year, and needed to reassure both investors and fans that it will do something to soften the blow of weak sales.

The announcement came in quite a weird way, notes CNN Money. It was buried on page three of Nintendo’s quarterly financial report, safely tucked between the announcement of a new video game that involved a cute pink character named “Kirby” and a statement regarding Nintendo’s “Amiibo” figures. This could be best explained by the fact that video game analysts and enthusiasts have been waiting for the console in the E3 expo in June.
Although a release date has been given, Nintendo hasn’t released any detail regarding the console, except that it’s “brand new.” Rumors about the next-gen console speculate that it will feature a gamepad that doubles as a handheld console when a user is away from the TV – thereby theorizing that it will replace both the Wii U and 3DS.
Pricing for the console is still unannounced as of the moment. It is also highly unlikely that it will be seen long before it releases next year, so for those hoping to see it in action in June, better not to get your hopes up.
"Zelda" Coming as Well
Nintendo has also announced that the much-awaited “Legend of Zelda for Wii U” game will also be released along with the NX console. Mirror reports that this will not come as some sort of coincidence if the game will be playable for both formats, like what Nintendo did with “Twilight Princess.”
