When the Chrysler 200 was released, it was meant to bring back the glorious days and put the automaker on top of its rivals once again. However, the flagship mid-sized sedan from Chrysler did not do well in terms of sales output, compounding the firm's ongoing decline in revenue. This has led many market analysts to conclude that the Chrysler may be facing seriously tough times.

The Chrysler 200 was projected by many analysts to cement the firm's legacy in the market. Unfortunately, the plan did no go as planned. The Chrysler 200 was supposed to stand as the emblem of the firm's vision to climb out of debt, resolve its financial problems, and once again win the top spot. To promote the car, Chrysler even went as far as creating an ad, which was shown at the Super Bowl.

When Fiat Chrysler Automobile chief executive Sergio Marchionne announced in 2011 that the company is in the process of paying back its loans from the federal government, he did in in front of hundreds of workers who made the Chrysler 200 in order to assert just how important the car is and its legacy.

Despite the early promise made by Chrysler, the Chrysler 200 did not do well in the market and was eventually eclipsed by its rivals, the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.

Compared to its sales output in the first three months of 2015, the Chrysler 200 sales figure in the United States dropped by a massive 63 percent. The company's overall sales figure have risen by merely nine percent.

Due to this disappointing sales performance, the plant located just outside of Detroit that builds the Chrysler 200 is idle. The plant has also laid off workers almost every week since January. Latest figures indicate that as many as 3,200 workers have lost their job since the layoff began.
