Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has officially launched its latest flagship device called the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus smartphone in India. The smartphone is now available in the Indian market with a starting price of Rs. 26,999 ($406).

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus was initially launched in China in December last year.

The highlight of this device is its long lasting battery life. The smartphone features a 5020mAh capacity battery. Gionee claims that the Marathon M5 Plus battery retains 90 percent of its original capacity after 600 charging cycles - this will translate to roughly two years of use.

The company also improved the handset's software compared to its predecessor, the M5. The smartphone now automatically alerts users about apps that drain the smartphone's battery. In addition, fast charging technology is also supported on the smartphone.

In terms of the specification of the smartphone, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus features a metallic-clad dual-SIM and runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with Amigo 3.1 user interface on top of it. The device features a 6-inch full-HD 1080x1920 resolution AMOLED display with a pixel density of 368ppi. The device is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 CPU processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with 3GB of RAM on board.

The smartphone comes with a built-in 64GB internal memory storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. With regards to the camera, the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus sports a 13-megapixel autofocus main camera coupled with a 5-megapixel fixed focus front-facing shooter. As for the connectivity option, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth v4.0, and USB Type-C.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is available in Champagne Gold and Polar Gold colour variants.
