Nintendo has announced that it has shipped more than 53 million Amiibo units since the miniature collectible figurines were released in 2014. In 2015 alone, Nintendo claims it shipped 24.7 million units. As part of the company's effort to further market these figurines, it recently added two new Amiibo figurines from the Wii U game 'Splatoon.'

These two new Amiibo figurines will be officially released on July 8. 'Splatoon' characters Callie and Marie are also known as the Squid Sisters. Nintendo said that the two new Amiibo figurines will cost $25 for the pair, or $13 when purchased individually.

Unlike previously released Amiibo figurines, the Squid Sisters will not unlock new levels in 'Splatoo.' Nintendo added that the two characters would not be playable in the game either. Instead, the two new Amiibo figurines will unlock songs and dance performance videos, which is a fitting content since the sisters are cast as pop singers in the game's universe.

When 'Splatoon' was released in May 2015, the game was an instant hit. The game's massive popularity was further increased by the regular Splatfest events, as well as regular updates which provided fresh and innovative contents to the game.

Some tech analysts predict that the game, due to its massive popularity, will be one of the first few to be fully supported by Nintendo's upcoming console, the NX.

The July 8 release date of the Squid Sisters' Amiibo figurines will also coincide with the release of the recolored version of Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and the Inkling Squid Amiibos. The Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl will be packaged together while all three will be available in a set. The Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl Amiibos will cost $13 each, while the set, including the Inkling Squid, will cost $35.
