'Descendants of the Sun' Lead Song Joong-ki Sends Chinese Fans Into State of Frenzy

Song Joong-ki, the lead actor of the phenomenal Korean drama Descendants of the Sun, arrived in Beijing on Saturday, May 14 to kick off his eight-city China tour. Song will also be visiting other Asian countries.

According to Yonhap News, Song arrived in Beijing and attended a press conference, where he told reporters about the drama series and his future plans.

"I didn't think Descendants of the Sun would become so popular," Song said.

He also admitted that he feels under great pressure following the massive success of the series. "The best way to deal with it is to star in another great series, and I am still trying to land one," he revealed.

Song disclosed that he is a great fan and would love to work with Wong Kar-wai, who was recently hailed the Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival.

"I've always loved Wong Kar-wai' films, and I spoke to Song Hye-kyo about him. He has a unique style," he said.

During the fan meeting, Song shared a couple of personal photos from his phone. Fans went crazy when the 30-year-old gave a sneak peek of him, Song Hye Kyo, and Yoo Ah In. The actor said they spent time together for dinner before he left for Beijing. He also shared another photo from the same night and a photo of himself in Greece.

Many fans are still hoping to experience another "Song Song" syndrome and want to see them together on screen.

Song Joong-ki's will travel next to Shanghai and Guangzhou. He will also pay a visit to Hong Kong and end his tour on June 25 in Taipei City.

Descendants of the Sun ran between February 24 and April 14. It was simultaneously aired in South Korea's KBS 2TV and China's iQiyi platform. The series concluded with a rating of 38.8 percent, which is a rare mark for a weeknight show.
