Tireless Ekaterina Makarova won over Victoria Azarenka to reach her very first Grand Slam semi-finals at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows on Wednesday.
The 17th seed Russian required an hour and 27 minutes to dispose the 16th seed Belarusian in two straight sets 6-4 6-2.

A public relations representative of Azarenka tweeted that the two-time Australian Open champion was suffering from food poisoning Tuesday that may have affected her play.
Makarova, 26, saw an opportunity to break Azarenka's serve 12 times and was able to convert four times to oust the 25-year-old out of the tournament.
The Wimbledon quarter-finalist Makarova did not dropped a single set throughout the tournament including her upset over against seventh seed Eugenie Bouchard on the fourth round.
Oddly enough, Bouchard needed some medical attention during their match, pointing out that the heat got to her.
"I was feeling very light headed and dizzy on the court," Bouchard said.
When Azarenka was asked about the food poisoning incident, she quickly pointed out that she does not want to talk about it and that she's not making any excuses on her loss.
"I think she played the same, so aggressive," Makarova said. "She was really aggressive and let me move a lot."
Makarova on the other hand seems to be tireless, playing every day in both the doubles and singles competition.
Along with partner Elena Vesnina, the team has already advanced to the semis of the doubles event after defeating the Williams sisters and will meet Kimiko Date-Krumm and Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova Thursday.
Makarova will meet the winner of the Serena Williams and Flavia Penetta matchup scheduled Wednesday evening at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
Under two circumstances that Makarova's opponent has suffered from untimely circumstances. Bouchard suffered from the heat and Azarenka from food poisoning.
Will Pennetta win over Williams since the World No. 1 player suffered a foot problem during their doubles match Wednesday or is it coincidental that Williams might fall against the Russian?
