Netflix has unveiled a new website Fast.com that allows users to test the speed of their internet connection.
David Fullagar, the company's vice president of content delivery architecture, launched the new service on Wednesday. He said Fast.com works in any country, and it is free for everyone - whether the user is a Netflix member or not.

"We all want a faster, better Internet, yet Internet speeds vary greatly and can be affected by other users on your network or congestion with your Internet service provider," he wrote on Netflix's blog.
"When you're experiencing streaming issues, fast.com allows you to check the download speeds you're getting from your Internet service provider. Using Netflix servers, fast.com works like other globally available tools including speedtest.net, and the results should be similar in most cases."
The new tool enables internet users to easily observe their internet download and upload speeds in real-time. Fast.com is a simple to use ad-free website with a streamlined design.
Fullagar made it clear that the Fast.com is different from Netflix ISP Speed Index. "This consumer speed test is different than our Netflix ISP Speed Index. Fast.com measures your personal Internet connection at any given time. The speed index measures average monthly speeds of actual Netflix streams during prime time hours," he explained.
Netflix's online streaming business is completely dependent on high-speed internet connection. The company is pushing for high-speed Internet connection for its 75 million users and has been suggesting which internet providers are offering high-speed Internet through existing ISP Speed Index.
