Gaming peripherals manufacturer SteelSeries has unveiled what the company describes as the "world's first modular gaming mouse." Dubbed the Rival 700, the new SteelSeries gaming mouse allows a user to change almost every aspect of the device to fit their needs.
SteelSeries wants the Rival 700 to appeal to hardcore gamers whose demand for gaming peripherals are not exactly met with devices that are available on the market. The Rival 700 ships with an impressive 16,000 CPI optical sensor. However, SteelSeries claims that when new and more powerful sensors are available in the future, gamers would be able to upgrade the Rival 700 without the need to buy a new mouse.

Moreover, the Rival 700 allows gamers to change faceplates to their choice of design and texture. The mouse also comes with the customizable RG LED illumination which can be configured to the user's preference.
The SteelSeries Rival 700 ships with two USB cables. It also includes a 3ft rubber cable for gamers who usually travel and a 6ft braided nylon cable for desktop use. Many tech analysts have praised SteelSeries' decision to make the USB cable replaceable, since it is the first part of the mouse that wears out.
On the side of the mouse is an OLED display which gamers can customize with graphics. The display even supports animated GIF loop. The display can also show certain game stats, CPI settings, as well as mouse profiles, according to Digital Trends.
The SteelSeries Rival 700 has customizable tactile alerts. This feature can be customized in such a way that it alerts users when their game character is low on health or as a reminder to reload their weapon. For MOBA games like "DOTA 2" or "League of Legends," the tactile alert can be customized to remind gamers of skill cooldowns. All these customization features can be done via the SteelSeries Engine app.
The SteelSeries Rival 700 costs $99, and is exclusively available on the company's website.
